How to Drain a Water Heater?
Draining a hot tub is an essential maintenance task to keep the water fresh and your spa in good condition. Here's a step-by-step guide to drain your hot tub properly:
- Turn Off the Power
- Locate the spa’s breaker or power switch and turn it off. This ensures safety while preventing the pump or heater from running while the water level is low.
- Prepare for Drainage
- Decide where the water will go. Ensure it doesn't flood your yard, neighbor's property, or violate local drainage regulations.
- If you've used chemicals recently, allow the water to sit untreated for a day or two to reduce chemical levels before draining.
- Attach a Hose to the Drain Valve
- Locate the drain spigot or valve, usually at the bottom of the hot tub.
- Attach a garden hose to the valve to direct the water where you want it to flow.
- Open the Drain Valve
- Turn the valve to start the draining process.
- Gravity will pull the water through the hose. This can take a while depending on the size of your hot tub and the slope of the drainage area.
- Use a Submersible Pump (Optional)
- For faster drainage, use a submersible pump. Place it in the deepest part of the hot tub and connect it to a hose to pump the water out.
- Flush Out Remaining Water
- Use a shop vac to suck out water from the footwell, jets, and other areas where water may remain.
- Wipe down the tub’s interior with a soft cloth or sponge.
- Clean the Tub
- Once empty, clean the hot tub with a spa surface cleaner to remove any residue, dirt, or mildew. Rinse thoroughly to prevent soap buildup.
- Inspect Filters
- Take this time to clean or replace your filters as needed.
- Refill or Store Your Hot Tub
- If refilling, ensure the water passes through the filter area to prevent airlocks.
- If you're winterizing the hot tub, ensure all water is removed from pipes and jets to avoid freezing damage.

Our Quality
It is easy for a website to claim they have the best quality but at MySpaCover we guarantee it. We utilize only the highest quality materials and the most sophisticated processes to offer the best covers available online. Here is how our covers compare to the competition:
MYSPACOVER
Our heavy-duty handles come standard and are double stitched using marine grade vinyl to ensure the highest durability and most attractive aesthetics.
Our standard straps are double stitched and are also produced with marine-grade vinyl.
We double stitch every seam and hinge to ensure your spa cover can be used for years to come.
Other Guys
Their cheap handles are more prone to wear and tear and are known to rip off within the first two years plus the appearance speaks for itself.
Our competition uses low-quality straps that are prone to breakage and often times do not match the color of the spa cover.
Their use of single stitching and exposed shells can ultimately cause cracking and heat loss, costing you more on your electric bill.
The Underside
The underside of a spa cover is often overlooked. However, this is the material that is in constant contact with high temperatures and the chemicals in your spa. The life of your spa cover depends on a high-quality spa underside. We don’t cut corners like the other guys so you can trust that our 6 mil plastic wrap is vapor sealed to the core and will keep the heat out.
MySpaCover utilizes an 11oz PVC coated poly that, after years of rigorous testing, has proven to be the best possible material to withstand constant high temperates and chemical exposure.
Beware of mesh bottoms used by competitors as this type of material is meant to cut costs and is prone to failure.
